Part 1: Mobius
The townsfolk of Mobius, in the Chiral Valley, are distraught by the arrival of the 1st Chaos Lord The whole town has been twisted upside down
into a chaotic mess.
Renn, the Good Rune Warrior, and Zio, the Evil Illusionist, have quests for you (depending on your alignment) to help rid the town of the Chaos Lord's minions. Anna and Otto, are hiding in one of the buildings. A cutscene shows Escherion demanding a report on whether his minions have found what he is looking for. They haven't, and so Escherion must return to the tower and report to Drakath while they keep looking. Escherion is looking for the First Piece of something powerful - something that could stop his plans for the area.
Anna and Otto think they know what Escherion is looking for - the first piece of the Runix Cube. They ask you to look after it. They tell you that there are
three pieces that together make up a puzzle. The second piece is hidden in the Faerie Forest to the east of Mobius.
Part 2: Faerie Forest
The Forest Guardian, a time-travelling faerie called Dew Drop, asks for your help in the Faerie Forest. Escherion has sent chainsaw-wielding sneevils into
the forest to cut down the trees. With every tree cut down, the faeries lose their healing power, and the most important tree of all is the Tree of Life, which
sustains the life of the forest.
Once the Tree has been saved by completing the quests, Dew Drop offers you the second piece of the Runix Cube and recommends you
return to see Renn and Zio.
Part 3: The Ruins of Cornelis
Renn and Zio suggest you visit a moglin friend of theirs called Anise. She has been studying in the Ruins of Cornelis and has some interesting information for you.
Apparently the former inhabitants of the Ruins fought with the Faeries and people of Mobius over the pieces of the Runix Cube, until they called a truce. Each group
got one piece of the puzzle. Unfortunately, Anise hasn't found out what the Runix Cube is for yet because Escherion's minions are roaming the ruins too.
Part 4: Tower of Relativity
After the last quest in Cornelis, you find a history book, the Runix cube and a magic mirror. You return to Mobius and arrive at the west side of town and Renn and
Zio ask you to try and solve the Runix Cube puzzle, because you won't be able to stop Escherion without it. To get into the Tower of Relativity you'll need to use the
teleporter, but it can only be activated from inside the tower, so Renn and Zio suggest you disguise yourself as a Cyclops - and maybe they'll let you in.
Disguised as a pizza deliverer, the guards let you through the teleporter and tell you that Escherion will pay the bill, and he's at the bottom of the tower. To get to the bottom, you'll neeed a key from the cyclops, 6 pieces of key from the fire imps, and a key from the head gargoyle.
Once through the Chaos Portal, you meet Escherion face-to-face. He doesn't know who you are, so you show him the completed Runix Cube. You throw the Runix Cube at him, hit him in the head, and then he thanks you for delivering it to him. His plans would have failed if he hadn't found it. He tells you he will now use it to summon the first of the 13 Chaos Beasts like Drakath commanded. Escherion then casts you out of the tower.
Escherion fits the Rubix Cube into place and summons the Lake Hydra.
Part 5: Lake Hydra
The Hydra is too powerful to defeat, but you may be able to re-imprison it under the lake. There are three Runestones (Alepha, Betalin and Gamilo) around the lake. They must be destroyed by collecting 9 Hydra fangs and then hitting each rune 3x with the teeth (The Alepha rune is behind the cliff, west of the bonfire). Without the energy from the runestones, the Tower of Relativity falls over, crushing the Hydra.
Part 6: Escherion
You enter the Tower again to defeat Escherion once and for all. The locals from Mobius follow to help you. Escherion inverts them with his Staff of Inversion. You
taunt Escherion that he would be nothing without his Staff. He releases his Staff but warns that it is loyal and will protect him.
To defeat him, a group of 5 players will need to defeat the Staff of Inversion and then attack Escherion, but the Staff recovers, and will need to be defeated each time it does. When you finally defeat him, he attempts to invert you, but you have a magic mirror you found in the Ruins of Cornelis ready and he inverts himself! He doesn't look any different, but all the spells he tries on you backfire and affect him instead.
He ends up a frog and the spell is broken on the villagers. Mobius and the Chiral Valley are saved.
Escherion was defeated, but Drakath remains pragmatic: chaos is by nature unpredictable. Escherion released the Hydra and broke the first Seal, and the next Lord of
Chaos has been chosen.
Next: The 2nd Chaos Lord
